Simple Prayers

Some Simple Prayers

A Prayer for Healing in these challenging times:

Heavenly Father,
We bring to you all those struggling with their mental health just now.

We pray:
For everyone who is smiling, when inside they’re in pain.

For everyone who is saying they’re fine,
when inside they feel drained and empty.

For everyone struggling with fear and worry as the easing of the lockdown brings new anxieties.

Be with them in their suffering, as so much of their world has been stripped back and emptied.

When loved family and friends have been taken by illness,
or made distant by lockdown.
Pour your healing balm into their pain and sadness.
May you walk with them besides still waters.
May you speak to them in a still small voice.
May you heal them, and fill them, and bless them with your abundant love and fullness of life.

And may they know that they are loved by you for the beautiful unique person that they are, created in the image of their heavenly creator and loving Lord.

In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Rev'd Peter Crumpler

Prayers for Night Time

Watch, dear Lord, with those who wake or watch or weep this night.  Send your angels to guard those who sleep.  Soothe your suffering ones, pity your afflicted ones and give peace to your dying ones.  And all for your love’s sake.  Amen.

Before the ending of the day
Creator of the world, we pray
that you with steadfast love would keep
your watch around us while we sleep  Amen.

If you yourself are ill or isolated

O God, help me to trust you, help me to know that you are with me,

help me to believe that nothing can separate me from your love revealed to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For those who are ill

Merciful God, we entrust to your tender care those who are ill or in pain, knowing that whenever danger threatens your everlasting arms are there to hold them safe. Comfort and heal them, and restore them to health and strength; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For hospital staff and medical researchers

Gracious God, give skill, sympathy and resilience to all who are caring for the sick, and your wisdom to those searching for a cure. Strengthen them with your Spirit, that through their work many will be restored to health; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A prayer for the 70th Anniversary of the NHS
by Bishop Sarah Mullaly    (Former Chief Nursing Officer)

Lord of life, send your Spirit upon those who work in the NHS and upon those for whom they care.  May those who are sick be enabled to lift their hearts in thanksgiving and may those who care for them be given strength to pour out the unfailing oil of your healing love.  May your saving power be brought to the world through the great physician and nurse of our souls, Christ your Son, in whom is eternal life, true peace, and the fulness of health.  Amen.

Celtic Prayers For Love and Light

O Lord,
in the name of Jesus Christ your Son our God,
give us that love which can never cease,
that will kindle our lamps but not extinguish them,
that they may burn in us and enlighten others. Amen.

O Christ, our dearest Saviour,
kindle our lamps,
that they may evermore shine in your temple,
that they may receive unquenchable light from you
that will enlighten our darkness,
and lessen the darkness of the world. Amen.

A Celtic Blessing

May you have -
Walls for the wind
And a roof for the rain,
And drinks bedside the fire
Laughter to cheer you
And those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire

Amen.
